CP5: Why would you choose to use branching?

For those of you who use branching, can you help me understand why you would use branching, what is the benefit? Couldn't you do the same thing with some buttons and jump to slide actions?

Thanks.

    Hi there

I'm admittedly a bit confused by the question. To ask why you would use branching is not unlike asking why you would use a vehicle to drive from New York to Los Angeles. Branching is just the action.

So in thinking about this it occurs to me that perhaps you are referring to the Branching View panel? If so, it's just another way of looking at your project so you may see sort of a "roadmap" if you will, of how the path will traverse from slide to slide.

Personally, I never use the tools included in the Branching panel to actually configure the branching. But that's just me.

    Cheers... Rick

Thanks for the insight - sounds like branching is exactly what  thought it was, just

wanted to make sure that I was not missing something.

LOL, I guess it's a bit like this. Those that find the pod/panel/whateveryouwannacallit "the bomb", are likely to try and make you feel you are just totally missing out if you aren't using it because it's just all the rage, ya know?

At the end of the day it's all in what makes you work more efficiently. If the panel makes sense and saves you time, terrific! But the good news is that you aren't forced to use it if it doesn't appeal to you.

    Cheers... Rick

I have to admit, I use it the same way you mentioned. I set up my storyboards that way, and know exactly where I am.

I guess the branching option though is easier for those who are very visual people, and find it easier to track that way.
