CP8 - side by side

I frequently display projects side by side in CP7, by dragging the title bar until the blue bar appears.  It's an incredibly useful feature.

Now I'm exploring CP8, and the first thing I found was that I didn't seem to be able to do this any more.  Does anyone know anything about it?  Do I have to open two instances of CP8 to have two files open side by side?

    HI Marion,

You puzzled me a little bit, because AFAIK you could only put two projects side by side by making them both floating? And that is still the case in CP8, if you turn to Expert mode. The 'blue bar' is for docking and a docked project always maximizes to the stage size. Do I miss something?

@Devraj I immediately turned to Expert mode, and never want to go back to Newbie, which can only be done by deleting Preferences and losing again all my custom workspaces. But I really want to see how your work flow is functional, allow me to be sceptical. Is it possible to post a video?

@ Lilybiri : If we delete preferences we will lose the custom Workspaces as well the state of Expert mode. If you want to switch from expert mode to Newbie mode you need to check the preference option "Enable Custom Workspace/panel undocking" OFF and relaunch captivate to come to newbie mode without loosing the custom workspaces. (which will be still functional if you again go back to Expert mode). I hope i am clear. Correct me if I miss something.

@ Marion:If this is what you want to achieve this can be possible when you enter to expert mode as mentioned in above replies.

No way, Devraj; do you really think I didn't try yet? Had to present inadvertently about CP8 by Connect, but I couldn't switch back to Newbie mode. I know very well what refreshing the Preferences folder is killing, reason why I avoid it. I literally hate the Newbie mode for my personal use, so no problem.

    Hi,

In CP8 you can place projects side by side by dragging its title and sliding across the title bar, and not by undocking and docking(where blue line appears). This is possible in beginners mode which is default mode where docking/undocking panels/projects is restricted.

If you want the cp7 style of undocking and docking the panels or projects you need to check that option(Enable Custom work-space) Under Preferences(As implied above). And Restart/Relaunch captivate to imply that effect.

    Hi Marion,

Sorry I skip one thing actually in Captivate 8 all these functionality are pushed to expert mode. So if in case you switch to expert mode you can dock undock the panels and projects.

    To enable expert view.

Go to Edit>>Preferences>>Enable Custom work-space inside General settings section.

Please try the above flow and let us know that are you able to accomplish what are expecting.

Don't report this as bug in wishlist this is not an issue.

    Thanks and Regards

Thank you, Shriransh - expert mode is a lifesaver for me!  I now have my side-by-side view again!

Lilybiri, you can dock a  second window at the side of the first by dragging a floating title bar to the left side of the window, and it snaps into place as in Devraj's screenshot above.

I'm so happy - I'm teaching a fairly advanced Captivate class tomorrow, and I have to use CP8, which I'm not very familiar with yet.  Last week I got caught by surprise when the docking technique didn't work.  Now I can show it.

    Thanks, all.
