Question

Creating complex label diagrams in a Quiz

Hi all,

I've been using the Fill in the Blank question to set up a few questions where the learner can input text as labels on top of a picture. I just space out the lines of text and set the right font size to fit. However, I have a few complicated diagrams that I'll definitely need more flexibility with. Is there a better way to achieve it? It looks like I only have the ability to have one Text box in the Fill-in-the-blank slide. I'd love to be able to create multiple boxes and put them exactly where I need them.

I was also thinking of having labels on the side that the learner drags into position. I think that's possible also but not sure where to look to execute it.

Your help is most appreciated!

Cheers,

Brett

The Fill-in-the-blanks question is not designed to be used in the way that you are currently using it.  It's intended to be used to complete a sentence or series of words in which some words are missing.  For that reason it only has one text box.

It's possible to create a NON-quiz slide that has text-entry boxes placed strategically over certain areas and set these TEBs to report correct answers to the quiz.  However, be aware that these slides are not considered true quiz slides and although they will report the TEBs to the quiz the slide will not appear during a Quiz Review.

You CAN build a drag and drop interaction slide with Captivate.  You can either use Insert > Launch Drag and Drop Wizard to begin the process, or else from the Windows menu activate the Drag and Drop tab and add the interaction that way.  You need to already have objects placed on the slide so that you can select them as Drag objects or Target objects.

    Thanks Rod,

Yep, the Drag and Drop action is perfect for my detailed labelling slides. I haven't used that interaction before.

Now, a Submit button did automatically appear but the slide doesn't seem to be acting like a typical quiz slide. I can't see a preference for adding a score for the slide and I can't apply my Quiz master slide (with all the Headers/footers like all the other slides). Do I have to pretend this is a quiz slide and add all the elements manually then add Advanced Actions to the submit button to increment scores manually?

    Ta, Brett

If you want the Drag and Drop Slide to behave more like a typical Quiz Slide you need to set the option to Report to Quiz.  Then you can also assign a given points score and the drag and drop slide will appear in the Quiz Review along with the other Quiz Slides.

If your quiz slides use a very different look and feel to your content slides, you may need to set up a special Master Slide that you can apply to the D&D slide so that it matches the other quiz slides and cues the learner into what they are looking at.

Yes you DO have to add all the elements manually when you create a D&D interaction.
