Question

cropping live video

Hi,
I’ve got a few bits of live video in my project that were captured by captivate. Some of them have bits at either end that I’d like to crop off. Is it possible to crop inside captivate or will I need to go to an external program? And if so, which will edit them? I presume they are flv files, and I don’t have 2 grand spare on premier to crop the ends off screen shots!

Thanks

Ben

    Thanks for the compliment.

I've found several alternate uses for highlight boxes that have proven very handy. Another one is to use them to "reveal" parts of a diagram a piece at a time. It's easier to start with a whole diagram, uncovering sections a piece at a time, than it is to add pieces to a complex diagram and try to make the pieces align.

One trick that I've used to "crop" imported animations is to put solid highlight boxes, in the same color as the background, over the areas that I don't want to show. Perhaps this will work in your case.

    Hi Ben

Umm, call me crazy, but is it still "live video" after it's been captured?

If you are saying you used Captivate to capture full motion video, then there is really nothing I'm aware of that will enable you to edit the video you captured. Basically, Captivate initially captures the clip as .AVI format and once you end the recording session it converts the .AVI to a .SWF. Once that happens, there is no way I am aware of to edit the resulting swf.

    Sorry... Rick

it's live while you are capturing it, but after that it's like the stuffed moose head on the wall i suppose.
so i'll need premier, or maybe flash pro to edit the videos. i'll see what i can scrounge.
    thanks

    Hi Ben

Assuming you are talking about editing the videos before even using Captivate to capture? I'll be very surprised if you can edit them after they arrive inside Captivate.

    Cheers... Rick
