Custom buttons jumping when rollover

I created a custom button for my "next" "back" uses and put them in the buttons folder. Up, Down and Over.  Selected them from the drop down in the properties window and they appeared on stage fine.

When I run the slide, and roll over the button, the over state jumps to the center of the screen and is squished!  What in the world?  I deleted and started over again.  Run the slide and when I roll over, the Over state appears in the middle of the screen squished.

What am I doing wrong?

Delete preferences.  Those are image buttons, right? You created 3 images, with names ending in _up. _over and _down?

I heard about buttons with states having problems, have a look at this thread where someone of the staff proposes a workaround, starting as I did with deleting preferences (there is a file you can run in the Utils subfolder of the Captivate installation folder)

It's about the preferences setting. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Defaults, at the bottom of the page in General check the box "Autosize Buttons"

Now insert your buttons again, Drag your button to somewhere which is not the center of the page. it should be in the same position when your roll over it.

Thanks, I'll have a shot at that. have spent ages (on 3 different support tickets) with Adobe Help today trying to have them understand the issue and been told there is no fix, so this is good news.

EDIT: Here is the patch: Hot fix | Adobe Captivate 9 issues

To reset the Preferences for a MAC, go to Captivate install directory, find the Utils directory and execute the CleanPreferencesMac file in there.

Is there a post that outlines how to delete preferences for OSX Users of Captivate 9, please? And is it too soon to expect a post-release patch?

There is already a patch. Look for hotfix in Help.

Which version do you usr? Are you talking about an image button or a shape

button? A responsive or a normal project?

I just downloaded version 9.  I created the images in photoshop.  Its a responsive project.  I restarted Captivate and its still doing it.
