Question

Customising simulation caption text

Hello,

I am using Captivate 2017 to capture simulations (demos) and need to customise the colours etc of the default text caption.

While I am able to customise the font type, size, etc, I am unable to change the colour of the caption box. My client wants to use a lighter shade of purple and I could not find it in the Caption Type list / gallery. (Currently, I have used HaloBlue).

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can use smartshapes instead of default text captions such as Halo Blue.

These instructions are for Captivate 9. I am assuming this works for CP 2017.

    1. Go to Edit > Preferences > Recording > Modes  and select Use Smartshapes instead of Captions.

    2. In the Object Style Manager under Edit menu, go to Smartshapes and change the default caption settings as per your requirement.

The default text captions that Captivate adds to screen captures are not really editable. They are actually a combination of several images that are blended together to allow resizing on screen.  In order to achieve a different colour, you would need to use a graphics editor such as Photoshop to alter the original graphics (found in the Captivate install directory under the Gallery > Captions folder).

If you want greater control over the specific fill colour of these callouts, change your Preference settings to use Smart Shapes instead of Text Captions.  You find this setting at Edit > Preferences > Recording > Modes > Use Smart Shapes Instead of Captions.  Then you can set up a specific Object Style for these Shapes and make it whatever colour you want.

Thanks RodWard. That's a good idea. Being a new bie, would like to know if there is anything else I should be knowing about using a smartshape (Vs text captions) in sims.

    Thanks!
