Cutting sections from a software simulation Captivate 7

I am VERY new to Captivate....

I have a software simulation that I am in the process of editing. I need to cut out portions of a clip where the trainer messed up. I figure out how to cut the audio but cannot figure out how to cut the section of the actual clip. Any suggestions?

THANKS!

OK that is super helpful! I am looking at my filmstrip and the little camera is not there. Here is what it looks like on the film strip:

I am trying to figure out how to get to "trim"...I am sorry about all of the dumb questions!!

The slides you are showing here are normal, static slides. A FMR slide looks like this in the timeline:

You can shorten timelines on static slides, moving timelines forwards and backwards. I see in this example that the audio clip is only starting after 2 minutes!! And mouse object, text caption and highlight box appear also later. Select those 4 objects and drag them to the beginning of the slide (you can also use the Timing accordion if you want). Then you'll be able to shorten the slide itself to the duration of the audio clip.

Bit old, but mostly (except maybe colors in the screenshots) still valid tips: Tiny Timeline Tidbits - Captivate blog

Timeline is the 'core' of Captivate, try first to explore that panel!

I need more information, really.

"portions of a clip': which kind of software simulation did you make? Is the result a cpvc or a cptx-file? In the last scenario, are you perhaps talking about a FMR-slide, which you'll recognize at the red line in the center of the timeline of that slide?

Its a .cptx file. The trainer messed up in a section and I need to go in and cut it out, for some reason I am able to do the audio but not the video. When I am in editing I can move the red line along the clip. I am not sure what kind of slide it is (so sorry super new to captivate and trying to learn). I did a basic software simulation recording.

Those red line slides are FMR (Full Motion Recording) slides. Quality is pretty low if you didn't change the Preferences to 32-bit. I tend to replace them by HD Video Demo slides, the cpvc-slides for better quality. Those slides have also a full editor.

Nothing much can be done about FMR-slide: look at its Properties panel, FMR edit accordion. You can trim, split or insert (another FMR?). First look if you really need that FMR-slide, if you cannot replace it by a static slide with some explanation. BTW a FMR-slide can also be recognized in the Filmstrip because there is a small camera icon.
