Default character limit in Text Entry Boxes?

It seems text is limited to 15 characters in TEBs, even though no maximum length is specified (in "More options"). Why is this the case? Is it a known bug, or just a very dumb choice by the Captivate developers?

You may be blaming the wrong persons. TEBs are NOT limited to 15 characters.  More like 250 or so.

Can you be more specific about where you are seeing this 15 character limit evidenced?

Are you sure you're not just seeing 15 characters when you insert the TEB variable into a text box or something?  Did you perhaps insert a variable to display by simply adding dollar signs to the ends of the variable name rather than using the Insert Variable dialog box?  If so, that would explain your 15 character limit.  Inserting variables this way doesn't give you the option to set the variable display length.  That's why you should always use the dialog.

Correct as usual Rod. "Did you perhaps insert a variable to display by simply adding dollar signs to the ends of the variable name?" Yes, that's exactly what I did, which seemed to work just fine except for the inexplicable 15 character limit. Still seems like a bug to me.

If it IS a bug, it's a usability bug.  But to be fair to the Captivate developers, what else could they do when a user circumvents using the Insert Variable dialog other than just automatically assign the default number of characters (15 in your version of Captivate)?  More recent versions of Cp now use 50 characters as the default.

All you have to do to avoid this 'bug' is to insert variables using the dialog method.
