Delayed animations in preview/review (Captivate 12.4)

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing this same issue - I've noticed that sometimes when I preview/review a file with timed animations (intended to appear on-time with voice-over audio attached to the slide), the animations appear severely delayed compared to what I set in the timeline - in some cases, long after the VO has completely ended and the slide end should have passed.

Sometimes if I move the animation timing back and forth a couple of times in the timeline and reset the preview/review, it will fix itself. But not always - and even more concerning, sometimes when I get it fixed and send the review off to a co-worker, they report back that they are not seeing the animations appear in the same review link where I just witnessed it working fine.

The randomness is frustrating and makes it difficult to pinpoint the reason behind this issue. I was hoping to see if anyone else has experienced this to collect more data and possibly figure out how to fix it!

TIA!

I have logged this bug with the developers. I sent them a video which I did to demonstrate the problem. It happens to published files as well.

The problem occurs when you view a project and you jump to a slide before the current slide has completed. If you are getting this bug (which you will), try this. Play a slide with animation on to the end. Click on the next button and then, before that slide ends, click back to the slide you just viewed. The annimation will be delayed by double the time you set. If you let the slide you navigated to end before clicking back, the animations are perfect.

There is a variable that needs to be reset on the slide navigation and not on the slide end. Let's see how many versions ittakes to get this sorted.

I came here to browse these threads to see if others were having issues with animations and timing. I've experienced these issues since 12.0 (currently on 12.4), but I don't see many people talking about it.

Animations rarely work in the browser, SCORMCloud, or in our LMS. I've cycled through different options to no avail. The selected items (whether words or images) just *appear* on screen with no animation, even though they work fine when previewing on the timeline. It's quite jarring to the end user.

I'm also experiecing delays with when items appear. I've had some success with using bookmarks to trigger items to appear, but even this workaround is iffy at best. This has been reported to Adobe: Animation Bug & Fix Buggy Animations. This is a huge pain and causing inefficient workflows (and bad learning products).

Does anyone have any solutions or suggestions? Can Adobe chime in with a response here with an update?

Darn, this is what I was hoping wouldn't be the case.. I had hoped that maybe the issue was isolated to the Preview, but it sounds like the timing issues continue on through the published files, in your experience?

You're a trooper for continuing to use the program despite this - with all the other issues and workarounds I've had to do just to make this program slightly more useful than PPT, it's really starting to feel like it's not worth it. Hopefully Adobe can suggest some solutions or an update on the bug fix. Appreciate your insight!!

Correct, the issues are happening in the published product. I'm able to circumvent some of the animation and timing issues but not without frustration, extra time, tedious work, and recreating screens.

This is the only eLearning authoring tool I had access to at my company, so I put full effort into learning and embracing it. I like the vision... rapid authoring, responsive design, no slide-based restrictions. I truly believe it's the future of learning design. It's a frustrating journey to be an early adopter though. We've since aquired Storyline. We haven't abandoned Captivate yet because we believe in its future. We do need Adobe to be responsive, adaptive, and quick to fix issues so we can keep this momentum!

    Hello,
I have also had the same problem. I contacted Adobe Captivate at the beginning of November. They asked me to send my files which I did.
I received this message from them:

Thank you for sharing the file. Upon further review, we identified this as a potential bug. We have logged a ticket #CPNXT-23211 to investigate the issue with our product team. Please allow us 48 to 72 hours. I will keep you posted.

I contacted them again at the end of November, the issue was still in progress.

Thank you for sharing that you've reported the issue to Adobe. Please keep us updated if you hear anything back from them!

I have now received this message from Adobe:

We appreciate your patience and understanding.

We could not reproduce the issue at our end, so the product team is debugging your project, please allow us 48 to 72 hrs., I will keep you posted.

But this seems unlikely as other people are also having issues with their files. I haven't heard back from Adobe yet and they sent me this message 1 week ago.

I've experienced the same thing when using the Review - I now tell reviewers to ignore any audio/text glitches and I test in ScormCloud before loading up to our LMS. I love having the Review process for the slide-by-slide comments, but it's frsutrating that performance isn't 100% correct.

Thanks! I'm not familiar with ScormCloud - relatively new to this role in which I'm developing trainings. Does that program accurately identify when there will be a timing issue with your animations? If it finds something, how do you fix it before publishing and uploading to your LMS?

I have a free account and use it to figure out if my issues are our LMS or Captivate - if they behave the same way in LMS and SCORM Cloud, I know who/what the culprit is.

I have had issues that @jeymilxd mentioned below that I ID'd testing in Scorm Cloud

I only have Captivate to work with and have embraced the new version (especially since it was unclear at the beginning if/when older projects could be migrated).
