Demonstration inside template I create

I have create a graphical template that I would like to use as a background. The template is 820X635 pixels. I have captured a software demonstration at 1010X707 pixels. I have resized the demonstration to 730X522. I would like to embed the demonstration in my template slide by slide as opposed to creating a flash and then embedding that. What I am currently doing is opening 2 instances of captivate, 1 with my template and the other with the demo, and copying the backgrounds from the demo onto my template as images. Once I have made the copies I manually recreate the mouse movements, highlighting objects, etc. This doesn't work as well when I have captured typing and or if I have a large number of slides in my demonstration. Does anyone have any suggestions if this can be done in a more efficient easier way? Or if I can copy the text entry demonstration from one instance of captivate to another.

Thanks

Are you wanting to add a custom "frame" to the backgrounds in your demonstration?

If so, the only way I know to do this is to cut a 730X522 hole in your template background and then merge that with the existing backgrounds in the demonstration.

    Here's how I'd do it:

    1. Open the template backround in an image editor, like Photoshop.

    2. Fill a 730X522 pixel block with the color pink (#FF99CC), or another color from the default Captivate color palette that is not already in use in the image. The position of the block should match the position of the backgrounds in your demonstration.

    3. Copy the modified graphic and paste it into Captivate as an image.

    4. Right-click the image and in the Image dialog, check the Transparent Background option, click the Fillcolor dropdown and select the pink color you added to the graphic in Photoshop (this is why you want to pick a color from the default Captivate palette... it's easiest to select a default color in this step).

    5. Right-click the newly-transparent image and select Merge into Background.

    6. For each remaining slide, drag-drop the image from the library and repeat steps 4-5.

The net effect should be to overlay the new background image "around" the existing ones on the demonstration slides.

Or, if you want to keep the existing backgrounds "clean", don't merge the image with the background and just apply "Send to Back". You can then optionally lock the image so it doesn't move around.

I appreciate the help. Unfortunately if I copy the background from my template file and paste it into my demo file it overwrites the background of the demo file.

You can hold down the CTRL key and multiple-select slides, which allows you to copy a bunch of slides in your source project at once, then paste those into your template.

The only concern is that pasting multiple slides can really hammer your PC, so you'll sometimes run into issues if your system doesn't comfortably exceed the minimum system requirements.

However, I would think the better approach overall is to copy the background(s) from your template into your demonstration file, since that's where all the interactions/animations are presumably already intact and working.

Right-click a background in your template and select Copy Background. Then, switch to your demonstration, hold down CTRL and multiple-select the slides in your demonstration that you want to apply that background to, and then right-click one of the selected slides and choose Paste as Background.

After thrashing the CPU for a bit, Captivate will replace the backgrounds of all the slides at once.
