Different dropdown publish menus

I have been creating a project using Captivate 2019, 11.8.0.710 (Mac M1) and I am in the process of creating quizzes etc. I downloaded the Adobe Captivate "create-quizzes" to use as a reference. The create-quizzes project has a creation date of 2018 so I assume as it is an Adobe file that it was created using Captivate 2017.

When previewing or publishing the "create-quizzes" project the menu options are different from the a 2019 project.

Why the difference when both projects are opened using Captivate 2019 (Mac). The screenshots below show the differences. Can anyone explain why?

    I will try to explain first of all which screenshots you posted:

    1.  Is for a non-responsive project (Blank project in the Welcome screen) in CP2017 when it was still possible to publish to SWF. All the Preview methods, except Preview HTML in Browser (and eventually in SCORM Cloud, not sure) were using a temporary SWF output. Since the death of the Flash player in all browsers, I have warned about this all the time, never to use those older Preview methods when you will publish to HTML5. 
    2.  Publish dialog box for non-responsive projects. Careful: publish to an app will not be functional anymore IMO.
    3.  That seems to be the Preview list for a Responsive project, which is totally different. It has never been possible to publish such a project to SWF because the browsers on mobile devices have banned the Flash player long time before its death on desktop browsers. 
    4. This is the Publish menu for a Responsive project, hence the Publish to Devices instead of Publish to Computer.

     

    In short; you are comparing dialog boxes for two different types of projects.

    Thanks for the reply and explanation. The project I am building is a "responsive" as I was told on my Captivate course always to use "responsive". My project is unlikely to migrate to a smart device but you never know. Thanks for the links to the Quiz basics, always good to revisit basic methods. I am currently building custom quizzes using an array of fluid boxes, advanced actions and user variables etc .

    Really! I am a Captivate trainer, and my recommendation for new users is always to start with non-responsive projects..Moreover they are only necessary if most of your learners really will use smart phones for the course.  Not all learning course work efficiently on mobile devices, and you need to cope with a lot more limitations. You can make a non-responsive project accessible in all browser resolutions by publishing it as a Scalable HTML course. Less than 5% of the companies for which I did consultancy jobs or trainings were interested in those responsive courses.

    So your reason 'you never know....' is putting you for a lot of problems. 

    The main purpose of my blog has been since the start the use of shared and advanced actions. Custom questions are great, but you are very limited when using fluid boxes for multiple reasons: stacking objects is impossible in a normal fluid box, you cannot use the main master slide, you cannot have any object timed for the rest of the project, you cannot use slide and interactive video in a normal fluid box etc. This is all but a complete list.

    The quiz course is basic, but you may find information which you ignored.  

    Sorry, but I am bit astonished that you didn't see that those menus were different because you were talking about two totally different types of courses. To me this is very basic, especially since you had training? The 'create-quizzes' project you were pointing at is unknown to me (I use Captivate since version 1). CP2017 was the first version introducing Fluid Boxes. You get lot more control when using the older Breakpoint views workflow. Here is a comparison which I wrote after the release of CP2017:
