Question

Disable tab keyboard shortcut

Hi There

The piece of software I am making a tutorial for requires the use of the tab key for moving from one cell to another. In one session the user might use the tab key 4 or 5 times.

I have found that when the user is required to interact with captivate that pressing the tab key causes the console controls to become active. The first one is "rewind" and so the user gets half way through the tutorial and then they are required to press enter in the tutorial, which confirms that the user wants to "rewind" when actually they don't, they want to go to the next stage in the tutorial.

So I need to disable the console controls keyboard shortcuts, specifically the tab key as they are prohibiting the user interacting with the tutorial prooperly.

Anyone know how to do this?

Cheers

Richard

    Hello Richard,

Did you ever find out how to do this? I am running CP4 and having a similar problem.

    Thank you,

    Hi Mary

Unfortunately the best I have come up with is a kind of work around:

In the tutorials that I need to use the tab button multiple times I have disabled the controls on the skln:

    by going:

    Window > Skin Editor

then unticking all of the options apart from the progress bar (which will still give the user a little control).

I wish I didn't have to disable this feature, but with the lack of advice for this problem, its the best I have been able to come up with.

Let me know if you find a real solution :-)

    Cheers

    Richard,

I did a little more research and discovered that the only way to correct it is the work around. I am very surprised that there is no button that disables the keyboard shortcuts! For my training exercise, it is not as vital, but I see it as a problem in the future. I hope CP5 addresses this issue. Have you been involved in the weekly Ask the Adobe eLearning Expert?
