Displaying Variables in Text Captions

When I display user variables in text captions part of the text is missing.  I'd like to use variables for entering more than names.  Some of the entries could be short sentences.  There seems to be a limited number of characters that appear in the text caption even if I size the caption to a large size.  How can I adjust text captions so the entire user variable entry is displayed?
