Does Cp5 support .mp3 format?

Hello All.

I am using Cp5 trial version. I also have Cp4 in my machine.

I hv a requirement of synchronizing a set of audio files to one video.

i will try to make it more easy to understand. I have a video(screen captured video of an application) without audio. I have to add audio to that video in Captivate.

i have to synchronize multiple audio files to single video.

I hv taken a highlight box & imported an .mp3 format audio into it. But when I see it in library a duplicate to the same audio file is created in .wav format. I have selected the unused items to delete, then the .mp3 file got deleted & .wav file exist in the library. But the size of the .wav file is 5 times more than that of .mp3.

Its the same with all the audio files I import.

I dnt want to use the files large in size. Why did this happen & what is the solution? Any kind of help would be appreciated.

Pullela.

Captivate stored audio files internally at high quality. MP3 is a compressed format that sacrifices some data in order to minimise filesize. WAV is capable of preserving more sound information but has higher filesize.

So when you import an MP3 file, Captivate saves an uncompressed WAV file version to ensure no more data is lost before you publish again.  Otherwise, if you import a file that's already compressed, and then compress it again at publish time, you're going to end up eventually with much lower quality audio and no way to improve it other than re-recording again.

It doesn't matter that Captivate uses WAV to store the audio file internally because when it outputs to SWF it publishes the audio as MP3 at whatever settings you specify as the audio quality. You published file size depends on the output quality settings, not the stored audio format. So it pays to record at a high quality setting (I use 128bit) and then publish at the lowest setting you can get away with.
