Does the Jeopardy widget in Captivate 9 work for anyone?

I spent almost 2 hours on Friday with chat support who told me to use task manager to exit the program as there is NO save or exit button on screen.

He sent me a new widget.  Same problem.

He told me to delete the entire Captivate 9 program and do a fresh install.  So I did including the voices. When I copied the new widget into the correct folder and started the new freshly downloaded program.... same problem.

Does the Jeopardy Interactive Widget in CAPTIVATE 9 work for anyone?

As soon as the chat help opens on Sunday PST at 9 I will be on line waiting for more help. This project was due at Midnight Friday night and all I had left was a simple vocabulary drill which I was going to do with Jeopardy.

Does anyone have any suggestions in the mean time?

Hi,

Can you please mention your OS and screen resolution?

Thanks,
Mohana

My OS is windows 7 on a laptop (Screen resolution 1366X768)  and external monitor  1920X1080)

Since this previously worked in Captivate 8 with no difficulty I did not think anything was the matter with my screen resolution.

So while talking to tech support yesterday I HID my taskbar and behold I could indeed see the upper edge of the buttons.  It is NOT possible to change the resolution on my laptop but upon making the external monitor my PRIMARY SCREEN I could see the buttons.

The tech support guy said that between 8 and 9 the  widget window was increased and so folks who have "old" equipment will struggle to see the end of the whole widget box.  My problem was solved and thanks to Rod Ward's sleuthing he hit it on the head that it was a screen resolution problem.  Two monitors is ok with different resolutions.  The thing that was so confounding is that the widget box looked complete... and not going off the page.  If the widget box looks complete then why would anyone suspect that... indeed there is something still down there?  Maybe a bug fix for Adobe?

Thanks to Rod Ward and the tech support guy yesterday I made my deadline this am.

I was able to solve this problem by doing the same thing - hiding the taskbar, but curiously this only worked if the taskbar was hidden before I opened Captivate. If I hid it after Captivate was running, I couldn't see the OK and Cancel buttons.

On another note, I've found a Jeopardy widget bug after spending more than a little time with this frustrating tool - it doesn't seem to like multiple response questions with too many answers. I have several with up to 6 answers and when running the widget, it doesn't allow you to select answers - you can check several correct answers but then Captivate seems to automatically check the last option when you click on Submit and then you can't even submit the answers, correct or not - the question just times out. I haven't done a lot of experimentation, but I'm thinking it's the number of multiple response options that's making Captivate unhappy.

PS: the limit is 5 answers for multiple response at least (might be an issue with multiple choice as well) - with six you get the problem I mentioned above. The good news is that if you output to HTML5 this issue goes away. It's only when you preview the project or publish it to Flash (I would imagine) that this is a problem. Support confirmed that and communicated it to the developers.

Thanks Rod for your prompt help.

I did everything you suggested.  Unplugged my external monitor, ran the Clean Preferences bat file and restarted Adobe Captivate.

No joy.  Your picture has a grey bar and the two buttons "OK"  and "Cancel".  Your picture also has "Help" on the left side.

Mine still has nothing at the bottom, no help file, grey bar, nor buttons.  You can see the picture below.  Any other ideas?   The help desk opens at 6 pm PST and I'm counting the hours.

Reboot your whole computer?

Also, check your display percentages in your Screen Resolution settings.  It could be that your computer is wound up to something above 100% and this is causing the issue.

Thanks Rod for caring!

Looked at your suggestions:

1) unplugged the external monitor

2) reran the .bat file in utilities

3)  went to the public documents and deleted the public rendering of all the widgets (read about doing this on another forum)

4) did a complete shut down and reboot so that all the software/hardware would reboot

Nada.  Buttons still not there.

This widget worked in Captivate 8 with two monitors.  Something strange is going on.  Support opens in 3.5 more hours.

Maybe I can meet my deadline before midnight and still keep in my boss's favor?

I thought to try "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" learning interaction as well.

It has the same exact problem as Jeopardy widget with no way to exit out of the program other than starting the Task Manager and force closing.  Both widgets have this problem.

A person can hit the backwards and forward arrows to their hearts content but neither game will save, exit or play.  Short cuts on the keyboard don't work.

According to Dr. Pooja Jaisingh's screen shot from Ytube there should be an OK and Cancel button (highlighted below) in the program to actually save it into the project.  Sounds like a major bug fix is needed.

I have seen this issue from time to time (just on Friday in fact) when using secondary monitors that do not share the same screen resolution. Captivate seems to get confused about how much screen area to allocate to the Widget Properties dialog.

If you are currently using a second monitor, do this:

  • Move Captivate to the main monitor (e.g. your laptop screen if using a laptop).
  • Make sure that all Captivate dialogs are opening on the main monitor especially the Widget Properties dialog and any other dialogs (Preferences, Audio, Advanced Actions etc.
  • Disconnect your secondary monitor so that you are only using the main monitor.
  • Close down Captivate.
  • Reset your Preferences folder by executing the CleanPreferences bat file in the Utils folder of the Captivate install directory.
  • Now start Captivate back up and try again.

Some of these steps may end up not being necessary, but my Learning Interaction dialogs now have the buttons at the bottom again.
