Question

Double mouse on screen

Hi there,

I am doing a software simulation and on some of the capture slides the mouse appears twice on some screens.

I think Captivate is taking a screenshot of the screen at the time of capture (which includes the mouse) and then it also adds in the mouse that moves as an object afterwards.  This means on some screens there are two mouses appearing, one which is stationary and the other which moves.

It's pretty distracting to have two on the screen.  To fix it, I would have to go through the modules and cover up the hands with an object, which would be time consuming and difficult in some cases, (if the mouse is over a word or button for instance).  I can't seem to capture it without it.

Is there a setting that I'm missing?

I'm on a Mac, using Parallels and Windows 10, with Captivate 2017 installed and capturing in Internet Explorer with Silverlight plug in.

This doesn't happen when I'm just capturing on my Mac in Firefox.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Julie-Anne

Captivate doesn't typically capture the actual mouse cursor as part of the screenshots.

However, I suspect that your implementation with Parallels is 'drawing' the cursor on the screen, so Captivate sees it as part of the screen image as opposed to the typical mouse overlay.

If that's the case, I think the only option may be if Parallels offers some way to draw the cursor differently. Can you find any cursor overlay/draw options in Parallels?

If not, then I think with your setup the only option is, as you suggest, to open the CP slide captures in Photoshop (or whatever), remove the cursor, save, and ensure that screenshot is updated in the project.

If you have to do that, try to ensure the cursor is overtop a solid background before the screenshot is recorded (so you're not trying to redraw a button or image when the cursor is removed).

You can force a screenshot with the PrntScrn (printscreen) keyboard button (at least, under Windows, not sure about a Mac) - which is very helpful to ensure you capture a screen at the right time...i.e. when the cursor is over a simple background, or maybe even almost hidden in the corner.

Thanks so much Eric, really appreciate your reply.

No I could find no settings that would allow me to change the mouse in Parallels.

It looks like I will either have to edit them as you suggest, or manually capture them using Captivate when the mouse is out of the way.

Thanks so much for taking the trouble to reply!

Many thanks,

Ja
