Drag and drop submit button - what's the deal?
Hello everyone. So here's the thing - I'm comfortable in Captivate (9) including advanced actions etc. I'm building a little tool in Captivate for a client. It goes like this:
User opens the tool and enters the initials of their stakeholders. They click continue and then can drag bubbles onto a grid (interest/influence) to show their position. When they've done that, they click next and can explore tactics for dealing with stakeholders in each quadrant. After that they're 'done' and click to end. This takes them to an end slide that offers the ability to go back and review their grid or exit.
Sounds simple. It's all working well, apart from getting the bubbles to stay in place when the user goes back. The issue is with submitting the answers to ensure the bubbles stay in place. Auto submit stops the ability to drag any further bubbles. So I need to click the submit button to get it to move on. I can put a button on the slide to click but that's a dreadful user experience and it doesn't respond to any actions at all. No on success actions work. Here's the detail:
Slide 1.
- User enters Initials of stakeholders into a series of text boxes
- Presses continue
Slide 2 - in 2 parts.
- Captivate fills the Initials from the previous slide in circles. These circles are hidden by an on-enter action if they're blank.
- These bubbles are drag sources for a standard grid. This grid is made up of 25 drop targets with anchoring set. They are gathered into a type.
- The slide pauses at 2.4 seconds to allow the user to do the dragging.
- When they click a 'continue' button. This is a text box made into a button that simple carries on with the slide to 5.4 seconds.
- They then see for highlight boxes on the grid that they can use to explore some text explanations.
- At this point the circles are staying nicely in place (because they're on the same slide).
- The answers for the DnD interaction are individual answers for each potential bubble. Each one can go to any drop target. (If I don't do this only using all the initial boxes works).
- IF I DON'T PRESS a separate and submit button, this does not work. I can't get the submit button to do anything other than submit the answers and so I can't use it replace the final button (that moves onto the last slide).
Any ideas? I want to be able to allow the user to go back to their grid and review it, so need to report answers. But I can't do it without an extra press of a submit button. It would be ok if I could get it to continue or do something other than just sit on the slide being annoying.
Cheers
AJ
