Editing Audio in Captivate 9 to Maintain File Type

In Captivate 9, when editing audio, it changes the file extension from mp3 to wav.  Since mp3 is a smaller file, I do not want the type to change. I tried to make the edits in Audition, but if you change the type, your edits are ignored.  How can I edit my audio files and maintain the original file type, mp3? Thanks

Wav files are uncompressed files. To maintain the best quality, Captivate stores the WAV-files in the Library and editing will occur without compression. When the course is published, everything gets compressed to decrease file size: images, audio clips (to mp3), video (to mp4 or flv) etc.

This means it is much better to use original WAV files in Captivate, and let CP do the compression, than to upload MP3 files that you compressed, have to be deflated to reconstruct the wav file and then will be compressed again.
