eLearning Brothers - templates

Hi there,

I am trying to use a template (for an intro) from eLearning brothers.  I have downloaded the stock people before and been able to find them and import them.  I can't seem to work out how to import the downloaded files for templates though.

They seem to be saving into my "Sample Projects" folder and I can see them there.  What do I click in in Captivate to import them?  I have tried a few things but I don't think I am doing it right.

Any suggestions to point me in the right direction are greatly appreciated.  I spent 45 minutes trying to do this today and still have nothing to show for it!

Thank you!

Thank you so much RodWard and Lilybiri -that has helped immensely.  I feel like I have a better understanding of what those programs are intended for and will use it as design help.

Lilybiri, would you be able to let me know how to save the theme of that example project please?

I am not totally sure about the setup of those 'templates', because I never used them. Because I am aware that a lot of users (and sorry to say so, the eLearning Brothers) do confuse themes and templates, I tried to explain that difference in this blog post:

    What's in a Theme - a Template? - Captivate blog

As for saving a custom theme, use the Themes menu, Save Theme as. You can save it wherever you want, the Themes dialog box (under the Big Button Themes) has a Browse button to allow you to navigate anywhere on your system to get a custom theme. Personally I never save such a theme with the default themes of Captivate, which are in the Layouts folder under the eLearning Assets in the Public documents. Same for custom theme color palettes.

The term 'template' used by the eLearning Brothers is not a template as it is used in the Captivate terminology, it is a normal project file (cptx only). You can open it just like another project and edit. But be careful: several users already posted about issues, because they deleted objects that were used in (advanced) actions, and then broke the functionality of the actions causing the project not to work like intended.

For real help about those many assets by the eLearning Brothers I recommend to contact them on their website. Or screen the template very closely to check how the interactivity is built. Use the Advanced Interaction panel (F9) to have an overview.

As Rod points out, one of the disadvantages of this work flow with cptx projects is that you are stuck to a specific resolution/size. If you were only looking for design help, you could also save the theme of that example project and use it as a theme in your own projects.

The E-learning Brother's files are just CPTX.  You don't import them like an image or an animation.  You either have to copy and paste the slides into your own projects or else use them as a starting point for new projects and work from there.

If you are intending to copy and paste them into your own CPTX then you'll likely need to do some reformatting so that the project window sizes match exactly.  Otherwise one or the other is going to look a bit strange.
