Embedded video stalls

Hi People,

This is puzzling me. Using Captivate 8. I have imported a video clip (480p, 6 mins long) into the project library, and then placed it on a slide. When I preview or publish the project, the slide begins to play but then stops. there are no video controls visible so I'm not sure why, but overall my frustration is that the video won't play fully. Any thoughts?

TIA

Andrew

Resolved. Justenuf2bedangerous - you pointed me to the cause. The close button was set to pause right at the start of the slide. Now it pauses at the end so the clip plays in its entirety. Phew:-) Thanks all.

Woo-hoo! Glad I could help!

Something to consider. If I play the slide from the Captivate timeline, it works fine.

Just want to warn you: Play slide is not a Preview method as I understand Preview methods in all video and animation applications because it will not render the output temporary. You'll not see what will happen after publishing, it is just meant for synchronizing. The confusing is due to the fact that it is an option under the Preview button, it should better be left only in the control panel of the timeline panel. Pauses and actions are ignored during Play Slide.

Thanks to all for feedback and suggestions. Have converted the clip from Vimeo to Youtube but apart from making the clip larger, not change in how its (not) working in Captivate. Sigh.

OK - need more information:

  • Does the slide stop, or does the video stop?
  • Are you publishing in html5, Flash, or both?
  • Did you add this to the slide as an embedded video or as a multi-slide video?
    • If it's embedded - did you set the video to pause the slide until the video completes?
  • Are there any other active buttons on the slide?
  • Are you using a provided playbar?

Aside from the fact that that is HUGE video and it may just be buffering depending on your machine's capability - take into account the ability of your delivery system to handle the demand of multiple users accessing that at the same time - could be a headache for your learners.

The video stops but I also suspect the slide stops as well.

Publishing as both HTML5 and Flash for loading onto LMS.

Video is embedded. How do I set the video to pause the slide until the video completes?

The only active button is a close button on the slide. Playbars are turned.

I am mindful of the size of the clip and what that might mean to learners. Which may mean we are not able to use it ultimately.

It sounds like you might have inserted the video as a multi-slide synchronized video. Two things to check. Is the slide (not the movie) 6 minutes long as well? and is there a pause button part way through the length of the slide that is essentially pausing your video?

yes slide is 6 minutes long as well. No pause button is appearing anywhere.

Event video plays totally independent of Captivate, there is no need at all to make the slide duration as long as the video which is only necessary for mult-sync video.  Event video is controlled by its own panel.

Did you insert the video as event video or as multi-synchronized video?
