Export a valid caption file from Captivate?

I have captivate projects with captions, but the captions are just part of the skin and irrelevant when I am exporting an mp4. I can export captions as a Word file, but what I get can't be turned into a valid caption file by saving as txt and then changing the extension. The Audio item id is there and the closed caption id but there is no time code. The captions aren't formatted for srt or .sbv, there is no timecode. I could create one manually, using the timeline as a guide, but that's not why I am using the software!

I've seen several good arguments on here in just the last few days why Adobe should get familiar with the most global, basic, ubiquitous subtitle/captions format which is .srt - and implement compatibility across the Adobe AV environment. I can only think they have some political reason for not implementing it as I've been trying to push .srt (or even .ass - when utopia arrives) for years.

I have a process that allows timecode management for so many other audio/video software that work with standard timecode formats. Why Captivate CC exports do not offer a timecode is a mystery to me.

Agreed, they should be able to export to SRT files.... please fix this Adobe

If you have an idea for an enhancement, please log it on the bug reporting / enhancement request form found on the Adobe website.

Saying it here on the user forum does nothing toward your goal. Log it.

I really do not understand your question, so sorry. Could you explain more in detail what you want to do?

What is a 'caption file'? Personally I always use shapes as text containers, rarely captions. What do you mean by 'formatting as .sbv or for srt? What do you mean by 'timecode'? I really know Captivate's terminology very well but you are 'speaking' another language for me.

Lilibiri, Thanks for reaching out. What I'm talking about is the closed caption fields in Captivate. They are useful when I publish a project with Flash and put the cc control in the control bar. But what I need to do is export an mp4 for a hosting site, and also upload a standard closed captions file: .srt, .sml, .sbv are the ones I'm most familiar with.

Captivate 7 lets me export closed captions, but it does not provide the time codes for the captions, and the formatting is not what is needed to import a caption file anywhere except Captivate.

This is for accessibility of my video when played in other players.

How do you handle that?

Understand the question now, thanks for explaining. I cannot remember having seen a solution for this up till now if my memory is correct. Since you are publishing to MP4, a cpvc file would do the trick as well. You can import such a file into Premiere Pro, I'm not sure but cannot that application handle exporting a standard closed caption file? Hoping that someone with more experience in video can help you, it will not be me.
