Export/Import for Translation

We have been serving a number of clients who use other eLearning applications, but a couple of recently turned to Captivate instead, so now I am trying to warp my warms around learning the process for a new application.  For example, in Articulate Storyline, the export DOC file is in a two-column format.  We delete the ID column and use what's left as our file for import into translation software.  Once translated, we wind up with the single-column file of translation and we copy and paste that back into the original 2-column exported file.  We can then import that back into Storyline and - voila - we have a translated Storyline module.  Are steps similar for Captivate?  I'm new to the community, so I don't know how I receive your response, so my   Thanks!

    Correct answer Lilybiri

I took out your personal email, you don't want spam I suppose. But will try to answer your question.

In Captivate you export the Word document with File, Export, Text Captions and Closed Captions. The Word document has two columns (was copied in SL from CP). Keep the first column (original), translate the second column, save and use File, Import, Text Captions and Closed Captions. Everything will be put in place, strange that work flow is also similar? Another 'copy'?

Just one more tip: since languages sometimes can need more or less space in captions or other text containers, I recommend to turn on the settings Autosize Captions and Autosize buttons (button text can be translated as well) in Preferences, Default Settings before importing the translated text.

Thanks so much for the super clear answer ... and for removing my email!  Wasn't sure how I'd find the response without it, but I did.  Thanks again!
