Failure caption text question

I'm trying to create a recording template for use in all courses. Can I change the text in the Failure capture to automatically display my own message after every step entry in a recording? The Correct feedback displays the Correct message but the Incorrect message doesn't display the text I want and I can't find a place in Captivate to change it. I don't want to manually change every failure feedback message. (I'm working in Captivate 6.)

Yes, you can! But it's a bit complicated. I don't know a great deal about this but these instructions are for a PC (slightly diff. instructions if you're using a Mac).

  1. Go to the Adobe Captivate 6 folder installed on your C drive > Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Captivate 6
  2. Find: CaptureTextTemplates_English.rdl (don't open it)
  3. Create a copy of this file, paste the copy into the current folder
  4. (If you are blocked, you will need IT to give you read/write access)
  5. Rename the duplicate folder such as: CaptureTextTemplates_YourName.rdl
  6. Open the CaptureTextTemplates_YourName.rdl with NotePad (if get a windows can not open popup, click Select a program from a list of installed programs, then click ok, the Open With box will appear, select Notepad
  7. You'll see a bunch of script: For example you can scroll down to part of the document until you see  <Object name="ClickboxFailure" Template="Incorrect, please try again"/>
  8. Change the Incorrect, please try again, to what you want it to say.
  9. Save and close
  10. Open Captivate, but not a project (to change Global settings - so that all future projects will have this setting)
  11. Go to Edit > Preferences
  12. In Cateogries column on the left under Recordings > Settings > Generate Captions In: click the drop down and select the custom name you just created
  13. Then test it out by creating a new simulation.

Hope that helps.
