File size inflates when converting to Captivate 6. Can this be normal?

Hello,

I just installed Captivate 6.  When I open files I created in Captivate 5.0, the file size inflates from 30 to 50 times the size of the original file.  For example, I opened a 2.5 MB Captivate 5.0 file with Captivate 6. When I checked the file size after saving it (I hadn't done any additional work yet), it was 66 MB.  One file I opened that was originally 5 MB is now 138 MB.  That file let me work for about an hour, froze my PC and then I couldn't re-open it at all.  Thankfully I was still able to open an earlier version of the file, so I didn't lose everything.

I was so convinced that this had to be wrong I had our IT guys uninstall and then reinstall the program.  The same thing happens.  I've had almost every version of Captivate all the way back to Robo Demo and never had this happen.  Is this normal for Captivate 6?

I've tried to reduce the slide quality to see if that reduces the file size, but it doesn't seem to.  What can I do to make the file size a little more workable?

Check your image file sizes in your project library.  I had a similar problem in Captivate 5 where I cropped some 2MB images and they inflated to 30MB each.

Each image is approximately 3.1 MB.  That's pretty standard for what it's been in the past.  Most of the images are screen captures.

    Hello there,

This shouldn't happen. Some of the reasons can be if you edit the audio file the original audio is still present, or if you have an event video and then convert to slide video, or if you record additional slides etc.

Did you check the file size after closing the captivate session? Is it possible to share the project with captivatehelp@adobe.com explaining the issue? Will take a look.

    Thanks

    Vish

    Hi there,

It slightly increases the file size after upgrading the project, but not to 30 to 50 times.

Can you tell me which operating system are you using and on which operating system that file was made?

    Thanks.

I am on Windows XP (I know, I know - can't be helped) with the latest service patch.  The file was also created on Windows XP.

Every file I've converted from Captivate 5 has done exactly the same thing.  It's almost as though it's not compressing the bmp files for the screen captures the way it used to.  The more slides, the bigger the increase after I convert it.
