Question

First 2 text captions out of sync with video

I'm new to Captivate, so apologies if this is an obvious question.

I created a project that consists entirely of full motion recordings of a web application. There is no sound. To each slide, I added a number of text captions. At the beginning of the project, I added a simple intro screen.

Played locally, everything appears when it ought to. As soon as I put it on a web server and run it in a browser, the text captions begin slightly out of sync. The first text caption should appear when the first animation starts, but it doesn't. The animation begins (slowly), and then the caption appears after a few seconds. Second caption is also late and out of sync After a few more seconds, the captions appear at the right point and everything is in sync. I've tried it on a number of machines using different browsers, but the result is always about the same. It seems as if whatever file stores the captions doesn't download fast enough to be available before the first video begins. Any suggestions?

With thanks, Jason

Hi Jason and welcome to our community

As you are seeing, full motion is almost never the way to fly with Captivate. For one thing, each full motion clip exists as a separate file that loads up. This takes some time to happen and is my own best guess as to why you are seeing the issues you cite.

This part depends on how long your project is, but don't be surprised if you begin to notice that the screen begins blotching out with red blocks, then soon turns solid red. This has to do with the Flash Player and your full motion clips. Eventually your PC exhausts virtual and physical memory on a long enough project.

Sorry, but the only real suggestion I have to offer is to reconsider your method of recording and avoid using full motion if you can.

    Cheers... Rick

    Rick,

Thanks for your response. Yes, I am in fact sometimes seeing that red splotching you describe.

I chose full motion video because our application has a lot of mouse overs, I found that Captivate wasn't capturing all the pointer shape changes, and manually capturing them was a nuisance. But it looks like I'll have another go at that.
