I've just installed and started to play with Captiveate2 (been with it since RoboDemo5). I tried the found the Branching tab and started to play but when I asked a slide to open another project I get this error message (Flash player '$' is not a valid integer value). Any suggestions?

On a plus note how good is this product!!! it just keeps getting better.

Thank you much, John. Tthat description helps immensely!

I can see how confusing this might be - though I hadn't thought about it until now. Obviously, I wasn't paying enough attention earlier - grin.

The "Branching" tab from which you are attempting a jump to another movie, is primarily there so you can view the branching that you have already created by (earlier) setting actions on buttons, click-boxes, and text-entry boxes (that you) placed on your slides during editing.

You can use the (Branching) dialog to over-ride "object" settings and cause the movie to jump to another movie, a different slide, or a URL and so on, but it might get confusing to the point of looking longingly over the edge of a cliff at the ocean below.

You can also set up branching for any slide by editing that particular slide's properties - by use of the "Navigation" option on slide properties. But there are several things to keep in mind if you chose to use slide-level branching.

    1) Any object-level branching will be over-riden by slide-level commands.

    2) Because of #1, you can accidentally, or purposefully, create a "looping"
that effectively "writes off" any slides following the branched slide ...

    3) When you select another Captivate project as target, it must exist when you publish or the publishing process will throw you error notices - perhaps like the one you got.

The bottom line (for me) is that I use the branching view to see what I have created using my normal interactive objects. I don't branch on the slide level as a rule because of the confusion about which object the movie is responding to. The only time I can think that I might is if I am creating a non-interactive movie and the slide-level navigation is the only navigation I will be using.

As to the specific error notice you see, it might be because you have published to a verson of Flash that you do not have available (??). Check in the Publishing dialog to be sure the correct version of Flash is being generated . . .

It's been along day, and I'm probably wandering ... let me know if any of this makes sense, and I'll take another look tomorrow when I'm fresh(er).

Hey Johnrw1, welcome to the Captivate User Community, also known as "Remedial Writing 101" (for English speaking members). Yeah, I'm in one of "those" moods today.

Were you "asking the slide to open another project" ... uh ... nicely?? How do you do that (?) ... perhaps by talking slowly and distinctly to the monitor while editing a slide??

Honestly, let's start over and describe what you are doing in "steps", because I'm not "getting it" at all.

If you mean you are previewing a project in which there is a "jump" to another movie, try the preview in a browser window instead of Captivate's own preview engine. I can't offer more than that because I haven't a clue what you are attempting to do, or what your output is, or ... anything.

Sorry - but try again - and try to forgive my sense of humor. It helps keep me sane, but not very . . .

Here don’t worry about it I’m told my sense of humour is a bit dry being Scottish and all.

When I looked at my entry again it is more than garbled, so I apologize.

    Ok from the top,

    Record a new project.
Go to the third tab along called branching (story board, edit, branching)(captivate2)
    Select a slide
Go to the properties dialogue box (left hand side)
From the drop down box select “Open another project”
Use the second dropdown box to navigate to the other project you want to open
Chose new from the little down arrow box
    Click Apply
    Publish as *.swf or *.exe
And low and behold there is the error (Flash player '$' is not a valid integer value).

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

    Cheers

    John
