Fluid Box Display Query

I'm exploring fluid boxes and have a question. My content looks like this on an iPhone 6 in portrait orientation:

However, when I rotate my device to landscape the content looks like this:

Can anyone help me understand why this is happening please?

It seems as though the layout starts to break down when the device/browser height is 520px or less.
