Fluid Boxes and Inheriting

I'm not sure if "inheriting" is the correct term, but I'll try to explain it.

I'm designing starting from the Desktop view. Everything looks sharp and nice. When I switch to, for example, the iPhone 6 view, any modifications I make in that view are also applied in the Desktop view. The styles of layouts of each view seem to be inheriting upward, if that makes sense.

Am I misunderstanding the point of Fluid Boxes, or am I doing something wrong?

I wonder if you understand how Fluid Boxes work? Contrary to the workflow with Breakpoint Views, which do have inheritance I would not use that word for Fluid Boxes at all. You don't have total control over the design on different screens with Fluid boxes: the layout will be adapted based on the settings for the Fluid boxes. Maybe have a look at my comparision:

Fluid Boxes Or Breakpoint Views? - Captivate blog

The dropdown list is only meant to switch to the look immediately for some devices. Setup is done totally in the primary view, not in lower views as is the case with Breakpoints.
