Question

Font appearance and bullets

When a line is formatted using a bullet, the font size appears to change when viewed in the published or compiled modes. I've checked the font and it is the same. Try it and see. Add a text caption and type something with no bullets. Add another text caption and type something with bullets. Ensure the font style and size is the same. Press F10 to publish the next 5 slides and you'll see the two caption boxes font look different. They also look different when you compile and publish the presentation. The program makes it look like you're using two different font sizes---an inconsistency....Anyone know how to remedy this?

The easiest way that I know to correct the problem in Captivate 4 is to build all of your slides and then do this:

  1. Select File > Export > Project Captions and Closed Captions
  2. Save the file (automatically saves as a Word document)
  3. Select Yes to view the document
  4. Make all of the desired changes in the Updated Text Caption Data column
  5. Save the file
  6. In your Captivate project, select File > Import > Project Captions and Closed Captions

You can correct any text items by following these instructions - font, bullet alignment, hanging indents, etc.

Hope that helps!

Hi,

Please explain what you mean by "log a bug".

Thank you.

I think the original issue reported by mstrozzo is a reflection of the fact that there is extra vertical padding between bulleted list items that is not found in lines of normal text.

This makes the bulleted list look taller, but the font size is actually the same.

If the last bullet (the bullet itself, not the text) is not the same size as the rest of the bullets, double-click at the end of the text for that bullet and change the font size to match that of the other lines.

I don't see how adding a highlight over the text will fix this issue. Even when typing new text into a new transparent text caption, I'm seeing variations in font size between slides with bullets and slides without. No copying and pasting. Typing new text. There are no "ghost" lines after the text.

I have seen some slides where the kerning is greater on slides without bullets. I have see slides with font that is clearly bigger even though every setting is still the same.

Hi there

Most of the time we see issues related to using Transparent Text Captions because the Transparent captions anti-alias the text that is superimposed. When this occurs, if you contrast a typical Transparent Text Caption with a regular Text Caption, you think the Transparent Text Captions look "odd" because of the anti-aliasing.

Fellow Adobe Community Professional Paul Dewhurst made the first discovery of how to prevent the Transparent Text Captions from anti-aliasing the text. And that was to apply a background highlight on a space using a specific color.

Later we discovered that the presence of a bullet on one or more lines of text would cause anti-aliasing not to occur. So a common trick we suggest is to place the insertion point at the end of all the text and press Enter once or twice. Then apply bullets to the last line of text. Once you have done this, size the caption so the empty bulleted line isn't visible.

Captivate 3 introduced a new setting you can use to control this behavior for the whole project. Captivate 4 continues to offer the setting. Click Edit > Preferences > Project > SWF Size and Quality.

Cheers... Rick

Hello there,

Funny you should say that as I have been experiencing the very same thing this morning with text bulleted and normal that is size 12. One thing that you could do is to apply a highlight color of #C0C0C0 to your text. See fellow ACE Paul_D's site for more details - Transparent caption text fix

This will help solve the problem. Though I would still suggest reporting this using the Feature Request/Bug Report Form

Hello,
I found a problem with this fix. It seems as though when I select a word and highlight it with #C0C0C0, I receive a ghost background around my transparent text field that is a little lighter than my slide background which is light blue.

Any ideas
