Question

Font not appearing properly when sending Captivate authoring file to client

Hello all,

My client has requested that I send them both the SCORM zip package and the Captivate (.cptx) authoring file of a learning module that I created for them.  The issue is that when they open the Captivate file on their computer, the custom font (Johnston ITC Pro) is being converted to Myriad Pro font everywhere that it occurs in the course.  The SCORM package functions correctly and displays the proper fonts (since all the text boxes are saved as .pngs).  But the Captivate file itself refuses to display the Johnston font, even though they have it installed on their computer.

I did not originally have the font on my computer -- the client sent it to me as part of the media to create the course.  Once I installed it, I was able to work with it in Captivate with no issues.  Also, I have already had to change the font for pieces of the course (such as the Table of Contents and closed captioning), because these pieces/widgets will not display the custom font properly, so I have switched the font to Arial for those sections.

As part of my testing of the issue, I had a co-worker install the Johnston font on his computer and open the Captiviate file from our network.  The fonts all displayed properly for him.  I also downloaded the Captivate file from the website (Basecamp) where we are sharing the files with our client and opened it up to test it myself.  It works fine for me.

I'm working with Adobe Captivate 9 Version 9.0.0.223, on a machine that's running Windows 7 Ultimate, Service Pack 1, 64-bit.

I've tried searching for similar issues but could only find instances of the font not appearing properly after being published for things like the captions and quiz results.  I couldn't find anything relating to why it wouldn't show the font for a plain text box in the Captivate file itself (unless the font wasn't installed properly which is not the case here).

It's important to be able to keep this font because it's part of the client's branding, so I would really appreciate any suggestions or explanations as to why this might be occurring.

Thank you!

Laura,

I believe we have been watching this same issue through posts from your client also on this forum.

So far we haven't been able to figure out why the issue is happening either.

According to the client's posts you are both using Win7 operating systems. But I did notice that you say your Cp9 Version is 9.0.0.223.

The current version is 9.0.1.320

Maybe you could also check whether or not your client is using that same version.

The other thing I suggested is that you could try saving out the Theme you are using at your end for this project and share that with them to see whether the default Theme or Object Styles at their end are over-riding the font settings when they open the project.

It's possible that you have discovered some bug in the way Captivate uses Fonts (it wouldn't be the first time) but I'm still hopeful there's a logical reason for the issue.

Hi Rod,

Thank you for the response!  I have updated my Captivate to the most current version.  Will let my client know to do the same if they are not already using it.  I will also send them a new copy of the authoring file as well as a copy of the Theme that I have saved out and see if we can get it to work properly for them.  I will be sure to let you know if it works.
