Question

font scaling not consistent

I've created slides and placed larger text on them, but a majority of the text is 22pt. Some slides have more text than others. I then set the minimum font size to 20pt (since that is the highest it will go). The larger text scales down, but so does the 22pt text. Slides with more text scale smaller than ones with less text. All of it is scaling down, the 22pt looks closer to 14pt or smaller. I've checked the settings on each slide . They are all set to 20pt minimum. It makes the mobile layout look stupid  with one slide with small text, the next with fairly large text, back to small... ugh! I don't want to turn off the scaling, because the larger headings won't scale then.

A bit of an older post, but I thought I'd respond to see if there were currently any work-arounds for this that actually work? I've had some fun dissecting the Captivate generated files to bend to my will, but haven't tried to locate the text scaling logic yet.

I submit this bug to Adobe back in Oct 2017. They responded saying they see the issue and would respond when they had a fix, but its been crickets since then.

I've been testing on multiple real-world devices (not emulators or google chrome's in-browser emulator, since they tend to provide different results than the actual device would), and have come up with random results every time. Some devices uniform text scaling works. Others, it just doesn't. Or its dependent on the device orientation, in which case one would work, but not the other. Feels like some flawed logic somewhere. Hoping to hear back from Adobe at some point; or see a software update magically appear one day.

"Currently, this is how our text scaling logic works".....
Is that all you've got on the issue?

The boxes fail to work as needed, the text scaling issue is a fiasco.  Even selecting Fluid Boxes is arduous at times.  This is far from perfected and it's creating a lot of extra work for course developers and Adobe forced this upon us before it was really ready and that's astounding that they didn't realize the backlash beforehand.  Offering workarounds is not enough.   Last time I launched Captivate, they auto played a tutorial on fluid boxes that was just as useless as saying "that's how it is now".    The logic is NOT working.

If you can suggest a better text scaling algorithm to the Adobe Captivate development team, you can log an enhancement request using the Bug/Enhancement Reporting Form on their website here: Adobe Captivate

Even though Fluid Boxes have been added in Captivate 2017, nobody is forcing you to use that workflow if you still prefer to use Breakpoint Views.   I fail to understand why you feel "Adobe forced this upon us".

As to whether or not software must be "perfected" before it can be released to end users, that's a nice dream, but it's never been how the software industry works.  The initial release of any new technology will always have some issues to be resolved.

I have been trying to explain what happens with text rescaling in three different situations, on quiz slides when using Fluid Boxes.

Can you have a look at this blog post:

Lilybiri,

I haven't even gotten to building the quiz slides yet (and from your blog, it will be an issue then too).

I've got problems with lack of consistency on text captions.

Here's my issue, desktop versions are consistent:

But, the mobile are not consistent even between things that should be the same (aka. the headings):

Currently, this is how our text scaling logic works. If there is enough space to accommodate the text in your mobile screen, there is no need to scale it further.

You can specify a limit on the scaling e.g. not less than 20pt, but you cannot control the exact size of the text on the mobile device. Captivate takes care of that intelligently.

I can suggest a workaround, to use margins or extra new line characters to force the text to scale on a mobile device.

Can you try the option "Enable Uniform Text Scaling" in the properties panel?

Mohanadas, the only way I would have been able to set the text to 20pt minimum is to "enable uniform text scaling". That's the problem, "uniform" seems to be relative to the slide. A different amount of text on a different slide with the exact same settings but containing more content produces a different size. Making the layout from one slide to the next drastically inconsistent. A text caption with 10 characters reduces differently than one with 25 and does not stop at the number input for minimum text size when enabling for uniform text scaling.
