Question

Frustrating! Audio from other slides keeps mixing in video export.

Hi all,

I know this is a common problem, but was wondering if anyone has any permanent fixes for it?

I am using Captivate 9.

I have a software simulation project, and exporting it to video. This format suits our organisation the most.

However, when I publish the video, audio from other slides keep overlapping at the beginning.

Things that I have done.

  • made sure there gaps before and after the audio clips in every slide.
  • use WAV audio files. These files have been recorded, cleaned in audition and imported into captivate.
  • Publish settings
    • customise preset ticked
    • force republish ticked
    • Profile: Main
    • Level 50
    • VBR 1 pass encoding
    • target bitrate 9, max bitrate 9

Sometimes these settings have worked, but sometimes they don't. Has anyone got a permanent fix on how to avoid this in the future?

Your responses are much appreciated!

Adrian

I will repeat my usual recommendation: do NOT use software simualtion in Demo mode if you need to publish to passive video. Use either Video Demo which has only output to MP4 or another application (I think about Camtasia). Captivate is a real eLearning authoring tool, where interactivity is priority. One of the issues with software sim to video is not only the audio synchronisation but also the necessary FMR slides, which for better output need to be replaced by Video Demo slides.

    Thank you for answering Lily.

I am using software simulation in demo mode, mainly because I have audio narration at specific points of the video which needs to be easily editable. Also, I can edit the screen very easily by each slides. I have found that software simulation is easier to edit compared to Video Demo for this purpose.

Would you still use Video demo if you had narration scripts and heavy editing to do?

Yes, I would, for its much better quality and video editing features. Video output from a software sim can never get that level of quality. As I wrote, I always create the Video demo in rather short clips. Moreover the audio which I record during the capture is just a draft, and I replace it later on by the audio clips which I record in Audtion (also for its better quality and editing features).
