Full custom eLearning using Captivate

Hi All

Our company has used Flash for more than 12 years to create our interactive elearning modules. We have started making HTML5 versions of our module using Edge Animate late year but since it is discontinued we are looking for new tools to help make our transition from Flash to HTML5. Can Captivate be used to create rich, interactive elearning modules? We really do not want to make static presentations with lots of text since that will bore most of the learners. Here is an example of our module done in Flash: http://www.fitforbanking.com/scorm/courseviewerscorm.php?fid=p1&fid2=0897nujh32&epages=&playdirect=false&examinee=Demo

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

What can or cannot be done with HTML5 in Captivate is something of a moving target.  I took a quick look at your example and most of what I saw could certainly be accomplished in Captivate.

Perhaps your use of sliders and masking is currently not supported, but (for SWF output at least) these are possible with some third party widgets.  Similar functionality is currently under development via widgets for HTML5.  However, be warned that HTML5 support across all browsers and mobile OSs is still quite patchy.  So the more complex your content is the harder it is to get working consistently.  The Flash Player was a boon in that respect.

My other thought is that if you have been using Edge Animate to create content, why don't you just move right into building the same content with Adobe Animate (previously named...FLASH)?  It has an HTML5 output.  Alternatively, you can build interactions in Animate and then import them into Captivate as OAM files (animations) for publishing to HTML5.  Then you could keep your current animations but use them in the Captivate environment.

Thank you for your reply. I've just tested Canvas and I immediately see the problem that is easily solved when using Flash. It's not easily scalable. Content needs to be redraw every time the stage is resized. I'll need to download and test Captivate thorougly. We need to migrate to HTML5 totally. Clients are demanding it. Some of our clients are making it an excuse not to renew our contracts. Ironically, those clients are stuck with old browsers and operating systems. Trying to hold myself from shouting at them that their systems are not even ready for HTML5 content.
