Fuzzy/blurry text in Captivate 7

Hi alll,

We recently upgraded from Captivate 6 -> 7. Usually we use transparent text boxes for text, and when publishing in Captivate 7, the text gets blurry/fuzzy, regardless of color, size, font etc. We had the same problem in an earlier version of Captivate (I think maybe it was Captivate 3), and the workaround then was to highlight at least one charachter within each text box, but this does not work in Captivate 7.

Funny thing is that if I just drag the generated .htm file into my browser window, the text is crisp and clear, but when I run the same module from our LMS, it all gets blurry and fuzzy.

Any help to avoid this would be very appreciated.

Hello,

I am evaluating a trial version of Captivate 9 for development, and like most in this thread, I'm experiencing the fuzzy text upon viewing a published project.  I've tried most of the suggested "fixes" listed here to no avail. I am using Century Gothic (various font sizes) per branding standards.

Can anyone tell me if they've found a solution to the fuzzy looking text since the last post in 2014?  We have Articulate Storyline; however, they have a spacing/kerning issue with their text and despite 2 years of threads they haven't released a fix.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Thank you,

Jill

Which output do you use: SWF or HTML?

Hi! Thank you so much for the quick reply!

I have played around with it for the last couple of hours and it seems that I've gotten it to appear much clearer.  I've tried each and both outputs.  Currently, I'm using the "no borders" as suggested above and 1024 x 768 size in Captivate with both outputs.  We use Cornerstone LMS, and it has published clearly on a test upload.

I also found a post that mentioned settings in the Quiz reporting preferences, which I hadn't set because I hadn't entered the quiz yet...but now it is set as recommended and appearing clearer.

Any other suggestions you can make will be greatly appreciated!

Have a super day

Some LMSs use a custom-built browser that acts as a SCORM Player.  It's possible your SCORM Player is making some subtle change to the view percentage of the output and this is causing the slight distortion you see as 'fuzziness'.

If you have IE, try modifying the view percentage of the nice crisp output that is NOT playing from your LMS to see if you can replicate the fuzziness at a specific percentage.  In IE you can turn on the Status bar from View > Toolbars > Status bar and then click in the bottom right corner of the browser window to call up the Custom dialog where you can fine tune the actual view percentage.

If you can replicate the exact appearance of your LMS fuzzy text via manipulating the view percentage then I'd say you have your answer as to where the issue lies.

Hi RodWard !

Thx for the quick reply. I did to resize the crisp output from 100 -> 102% and the same fuzziness occured. So perhaps our LMS (which is Oracle iLearning btw) in one way or another resizes the viewed file some percentages?. However, since the CP6 published is still crisp and clear when viewed from our LMS, I am still not convinced that the problem is caused by our LMS rescaling the output.

If your content is crisp when just played in a browser, it MUST be the way the LMS is presenting it that is causing your issue.

You need to check with your LMS vendor to see whether they are using a Java-based player app to display the content in your web browser.  As you saw, it only takes the content to be resized by one or two percent and you get this fuzziness.
