Glitch or oversight?

I've created some Multi-synchronized slides with video on them. The videos only run the duration of their slides, not across multiple slides. I've created some play/pause buttons for them that work almost fine. The problem is that whenever I hit the play button (action is an advanced action: continue, hide play button, show pause button) instead of just continuing from that point, the video starts over. When the closed captioning is on it will wait where the video was paused instead of going back to the beginning, and then once the video has caught up again the closed captioning will continue.

Does anybody know why any of this is happening? The closed captioning is a secondary concern, I'd really like to know why my video won't just continue from the pause point.
