Halifax demos

Hi there,
I'm a Technical Writer and I'm currently using a trial version of Captivate. I spotted a demo on the Halifax website which has obviously been created with Captivate: http://www.halifax.co.uk/aboutonline/demos.asp

I know how to do the actual demo bit but I'm interested to know how they put together the nifty menu on the left hand side. Was this done with Captivate (I doubt it cause the Menu Builder section isn't detailed enough) or have they done this using something like Dreamweaver.

What do y'all think? All ideas welcome!

There is serious doubt in my mind that the piece referred to is even a Captivate project; might be, but I suspect it is not (view the source). But the point is, that isn't the question, so I digress. You can create the left-side menu in Captivate. In fact, you can create everything you see in Captivate.

But although I don't think this is a Captivate piece, I do believe it is possible to recreate the entire project with Captivate - and IMO there is no need for a Flash wrapper in order to achieve the "menu effect" you seem to like so well, Sharon.

All of which is not to say I disagree with Mark. But while the objects transitioning across the stage is definitely not a Captivate feature, that transition only occurs on the first stage. The demo movies themselves look more like AVIs that have been converted to SWF - just my take.

Thanks for the quick response Mark,
It looks the part but I'm not sure if I'm willing to cough up the bucks for Captivate and Adobe Flash 8/CS3!! I'll have to find another way to create my own.

    Hi Sharon,

If you didn't want to purchase Adobe Flash then you might be able to load the published Captivate pieces of this jigsaw using SwishMax.
Learn more about SwishMax It offers a good alternative to Adobe Flash CS3, just bear in mind that unlike Flash you wouldn't be able to import the source Adobe Captivate project files.

    Hello Sharon,

Welcome to our community. It looks to me as though they have exported the Adobe Captivate project files to Adobe Flash 8 / CS3 and created the wrapper in Flash itself. One of the reasons why I think this is the case is because they have objects moving across the screen (such as the navigation).
