Hi,

I'm a eLearning course developer.

In one of the course, I'm trying to design a HTML form type of interactivity. (image below).
The interactivity should have features like:

  • It should work like a real HTML form
  • There are several type of form fields (Dropdowns, input boxes, calendar, checkboxes)
  • It should also have the form vaildation on press of click box, and after the validation, user can have the prompt to fill-in the right values
  • Maximum number of attempts on each of the inputs

Thanks for your help.

Software simulation will probably not be what you want, totally disagree with the previous answer. If you create a software sim, either in training or assessment mode you'll have to cope with its limitations. To mention one: the sequence of filling in the text fields will be imposed, the learner will not have the freedom to choose which fields to fill in first. Both modes will require to indicate the 'correct' input for a field. That seems one of your requirements, which is fine. However there is no possibility to have other input modes than typing the value or clicking in a hotspot. For a calendar view, that means that you'll have a screenshot when the calendar view appears, and a hotspot to be clicked on the correct date. Similar for a dropdown list: a screenshot where the dropdown list appears  followed by another one with a hotspot to be clicked, the result (choice from dropdown) will appear in the next screen. Contrary to the to be typed in fields, where the text is stored in a variable, there will be nothing stored for the hotspots.

Some of your requirement can be met  by using learning interactions (like checkboxes and dropdown list), Text Entry Boxes, AFAIK the calendar will be a problem, there is no interaction nor widget to achieve that in a quick way. The form will require several advanced or shared actions to create the validation.

Some details are missing in your question: do you want to do something later on with the data acquired in this form?

Hi Lilybiri,

Thanks for your answer. I would definitely give this solution a try.

The data input doesn't need any further processing but just a successful validation with the provided hints.

And after successful validation of each field, it would just jump to next slide.

Thanks,

Lalit

That makes it easier. You could go with a software simulation, Training or Assessment mode (both have by default scoring turned on, only the Hint message is missing in Assessment mode). However, you mentioned 'maximum attempts'. That will make it a frustrating experience in software sims because the learner will not be able to leave a screen (and you'll have a lot as I explained) until the answer is correct.  Stil think that the imposed sequence for such a form will be the biggest show stopper.

Have you used Software Simulation in Adobe Captivate? This seems like the perfect candidate for such a simulation. Check out this video if you want more detail...
