Hidden Embedded Videos - HTML 5 playbar issues in Cp8

Hey all -

Working on a project that uses Adobe Connect as the launch platform - which means the user has to view ALL the slides in order to get credit, so please, no discussion of setting up a branched view with a percentage of viewed pages.

Here's the problem - I have multiple videos that the user can, but doesn't have to view. the normal set up would be to load several event videos onto one slide (I don't have a media server, either, so the web object is a non-starter) as hidden objects, then allow the user to access one or more by simply selecting from a list of show/hide buttons to reveal and run the video whether or not the user sees the videos, the slide gets counted and its all good. Unfortunately, the videos lose the default html5 playbar when they are set up this way. The only way to control them is by right-clicking on the mouse to reveal a play/pause - mute/unmute menu and controlling the video from there - not 508 compliant and not user friendly. Am I missing something here? The videos work fine in the swf view, the skin appears and all is well, but the html5 standard fails miserably.

The only work around requires loading the videos as files and resetting the buttons to open each file - useful, but I'd rather keep everything inside if possible.

Thoughts? Is this a known glitch?

Hello,

If I'm understanding you correctly, you would like to have the ability for users to click on a button to self-select a video to watch - but you want the videos completely embeded into the Captivate project.

Here is one idea that should work that meets your criteria:

Simply create multiple slides (1 for each embedded slide video needed) with all slides having matching "video menu buttons" as seen in the example below: (note: I used the same video in each slide below for quickness in reply to this posting...yes you would see a different video pics on each slide when you embed your videos.)

   

Then, assign the Action settings for the video button on its page to "No Action" (Video 1 page button action will be set to "No Action" for example) and have all other buttons assigned to jump to their video slides.


The  user can use the normal play bar to pause/play/mute and etc.  Also, you can use Captivate's built-in closed captioning tool for each video per slide helping make 508 more obtainable for your project.


I tested this idea (HTML5 Publish) and seems to work wonderfully!

Paul:

The problem is the limited capability of Adobe Connect to track completion, otherwise your solution is a robust and elegant one. This works perfectly and takes advantage of all Cp8 has to offer, but the ability to skip content causes Connect to refuse to mark the course as complete. We're currently in UAT for our new LMS, so this is a problem with a finite future. Thanks for your input!
