Question

How can I click through a sequence of shapes/images with one button that waits for user (AKA next button for slideshow within slide)

I guess this is the same as creating a slideshow within a slide, but In my particular scenario I have 10 speech bubbles for two characters on screen.

I want the user to be able to click one button that hides the current speech bubble, and displays the next, then waits for the user to click again to repeat the process

I'm trying to work out an advanced action, but I can't figure out a way to for it to wait for the user.

If there is a simpler way to do this, I'm open to it, but as we have background music, I'm trying to keep everything on the same slide.

Any help appreciated.

Is this 'background music' actually applied to the project background or just to the slide itself? If it's in the background of the project, you can do what you want with the slides.

@RodWard - The music kicks in at the start of this character dialog section. We are currently moving ahead with each new speech bubble on its own slide, until I figure out a way to get it all on one slide. This would mean we have to remove the bg music, unless there's a way to have it start on Slide 1, continue through to Slide 10, and stop on slide 11.

Background music is not really very controllable in Captivate. If you need precise control over where it starts and stops, you're better off to add the music on a given slide and spread it over subsequent slides. But even that is not likely to give you precise enough control if the learner is in control of when they click the buttons to have each person's speech bubble appear or disappear.

You don't tell which version you are using? I need to know that before offering a possibile work flow.

I would use a multistate object that has each bubble in an individual state. You will only need one command for the button: 'Go to Next State'. Be sure to uncheck the option 'Continue Playing the Project'. That is the easiest way, without any doubt but you need to use either CP9 or CP2017 to have multistate objects.

With this multistate object, can I have the speech bubbles in different locations and sizes?
