Question

How can I make Captivate work in Articulate?

I have already contacted my Articulate support person, but I thought I would contact someone with some Captivate expertise.  I am trying to import a Captivate file into Articulate.  This file was developed by an outside source and consists of three .swf files and other pertinent dependent files.  I understand by my Articulate instructions that I do not need any of the dependent files when I import the main .swf into Articulate.  I just have to be sure to copy and paste the other .swf files into the content folder once my presentation is published.

My main questions are, are there any instructions on how to save the Captivate file in order for it to work with Articulate?  Are there any caveats the developer should know when working with these two programs?

Even a more basic question -- What are the pros and cons of embedding Cp into Articulate.?  IT, who hasn't used Cp since v.2, thinks embedding into Articulate is the best solution for compatibility with the LMS (LearnCenter). I, on the other hand, have doubts about making an Adobe product and Articulate product interact seamlessly.

Which is ok.. except... the popping out into a new window is a problem for me, because we have over 20 of

these demos/training sections in a single course.

Plus, it looks clumsy having it open in a new window and not a single streamlined product.

Importing them as Flash puts it in the same window (and can be larger than the web object option), but we're having problems getting the right-click functionality to work.

Anyone who can give me a fix to the right-click problem gets a bunch of roses from me!

I do this all the time with the online trainings I create.  However, what I do is export html from Captivate and then add my Captivate demos (I use them for software demos) as web objects into Articulate Presenter (assuming you're using the latest: '09).  I have the demos pop out in a new browser window separate from the main training content (Powerpoint slides).  It works really well.  If you don't have html, you can still import Flash into Presenter, but I get better results, quality-wise and workflow-wise, with using them as web objects.

Can you please elaborate a bit?

We have been using .swf files created in Captivate 4 and embedded in Articulate for some time now and the two products work really well together.

However, we have upgraded to Captivate 5 and now I can't get it to work.  I understand there is a problem with AS3 (from Cap5) whereas Articulate uses AS2.

But is there a way to import the html file into Articulate, rather than the .swf?

    Hello,

I think you could find an answer to this question on the Articulate forum if my memory is not cheating on me.

If you are using a version of Captivate 4 or earlier, then you can import the SWF files from Captivate into Articulate as a flash file and they run great... except for the right click function.

    Hello,

Do not have any experience with Articulate-Captivate combi, but there is one caveat I'm aware of: Captivate files should be ActionScript 2, because Articulate doesn't accept ActionScript 3-SWF's.

A follow-up to this.  Since Captivate 5 only has ActionScript 5 3, does that mean it won't work in Articulate?

    Hi there

I'm guessing that would be a question that could only be answered by someone that knows Articulate really well.

Have you tried the Articulate forums?

    Cheers... Rick
