learning how to use captivate 9 and attempting to record a video demo. The video i require to complete is aprx 25 minutes long and requries some pausing to complete work that does not get captured in the video. I see that the pause recording feature was available in prior versions of captivate, but i can not see any way of doing this is 9. Please help

I have answered this already a couple of times on the forums, should really write out this small tip on my blog.

You cannot pause a video demo really. However you can have several video clips in the same video demo. This is the work flow:

    • Capture the first video clip, when you are finished end the capture and watch the result.
    • Be sure to keep the captured application in its present status (at the end of the video clip)
    • Open the video editor, eventually you can edit or trim if necessary
    • Put the playhead at the end of the present video clip
    • Start Capturing again using Insert, Video Recording
    • The new video clip will be added at the end of the first one
    • If  you want you can use a transition between the two video clips, but you don't have to; mostly I will split up such a long video demo in logical chunks, and even add a static object (image, text...) to indicate the new 'chapter'.

BTW that has never been available! Pause only exist for the Classic capture of software simulations which uses static slides (cptx-files), whereas the video demo is a cpvc-slide and pure video.

Thank you for your quick response. I had seen this response but i thought it was specific to captivate 8, sorry. This will be a pain, i wonder why they removed this function. I was reading reviews for captivate 6 and saw in the setting options that there was a pause option using the Pause/Break button.

No, you didn't read well. Pause only existed ever for software simulations. Video Demo has never changed its functionality, never had a Pause possibility. This is not a pain at all!
