Question

How can I publish a stand-alone file with Captivate 8?

I have just downloaded the new Captivate 8, but I an not sure how to publish a stand-alone, interactive file now.  In previous versions, one could publish an .exe file that didn't require a browser to work.  In the new version, there appears to be two options: HTML 5/SWF or video. The video option publishes a .mp4.  Is there still a way to publish a .exe?

Thank you!

Hello Everyone ,

I would like to inform you that Publish to exe is back now in Captivate version 8(8.0.1.242), now you can publish your project to single file.

Please update your version by going to Help > Update .

Alternatively you may also download the patch using the link given below

Thanks

Himanshu

Adobe has released a free Captivate 8.0.1 patch. With this patch the functionality of publishing as an .exe is back. Can you please update and see if it solves your problem?

File > Export to Flash. Havent yet tried it, but if it works, there's your answer why they removed it. Use a product no-one wants to buy lol.

Perhaps try publishing as Flash SWF, then create an Aggregator project and add the SWF. Publish the Aggregator as an EXE.

Aggregator project works well, only problem is that if you have any buttons inside the projects who opens PDF documents, those links will not work anymore Piece of crap become this Captivate

Frankly I am a little tired of Adobe stonewalling on the issue of removing exe and dmg publication facility from Adobe Captivate 8.  What a load of flimsy excuses from Adobe!!!!  In Cap 7 I exported to exe and dog all the time and I truly miss this facility.  Why does Adobe remove a perfectly good facility when upgrading?

It all makes me believe that Captivate 8 was rushed out without much thought other than to get a 'not working correctly' responsive design bit built in.  Did they not think about customer research?

And so, I've just paid over £300 to upgrade to a version of Captivate (8) I won't be using much.  This disgusts me and I am sure I am not alone.

And yes, why is Captivate not part of Creative Cloud?  I ask this question and I have asked it before.  Adobe will NEVER answer this question.

Adobe.  Please try and LISTEN to what your customers are saying.

No Richard, you're not alone. I agree completely with your comments and am equally baffled by the Captivate's team "process, whatever it is.

Web widgets don't work in a pdf, as far as i can tell either.

There are plenty of swf to exe converters online and free.

Free online converters aren't the point. Very far from the point in fact.

Captivate has recently changed from a monthly to a yearly subscription meaning those of us who only needed it sporadically are forced to pay more. Also it hasn't been included in the Adobe Cloud to whom we also pay a subscription. All fine but then they starting whipping out features with no notice.  As far as I'm concerned I shouldn't have to mess about online looking for glitchy free online converters for what was once a one step process within the software we're paying for. Typos on the manual and on the website page are misleading (since changed from Monday), it was one of the things I looked for when checking out the specs for Captivate 8.

Yes publishing to PDF and the APP Packager are wonderful if that's what the client wants but not much use when it expressly isn't what they want.

Wow, I have to agree. Not being able to publish EXE and APP is a big problem for me. I suppose it didn't occur to the development team that not everyone has 24/7 internet access.

You can still publish to PDF, or use the app packager, but I have no idea whatsoever why this feature was taken away.

Despite LIVE CHAT person saying exe is no longer supported, the Captivate 8 manual on page 418 states that this is possible.  Can anyone confirm please?

Publish to an .exe has been removed in Captivate 8. We apologies for the typo in the manual.
