Question

How do I edit the Timeline?

Hello folks,
I have a slide that's 10s long. The first 7s has a capture of me typing. The first 3s of the capture was an error-I had to delete and start over, which was part of the capture. How can I cut out the first 3s of the typing and leave the remain 4s which is good? Can I cut or crop just the typing object? Can I cut out the first 3s of the entire slide?

Thanks for your time!

Hi DilbertG

Sorry, I didn't create the effect. Fellow Adobe Community Expert Paul Dewhurst did!

Thanks Rick. I'll make a wish!

Sooo it that to say there's no way to cut/crop a timeline except from the end backward?

Hi again

I was simply advising that there is no way to edit recorded typing. There are, however, other ways to edit objects in the timeline. But yes, generally, your basic option is to shorten the timeline from the end point. All other actions occur by virtue of editing the object in the Timeline, by changing when it appears and how long it remains.

Hi Learnin' stuff and welcome to our community

You have just stumbled onto something near and dear to my heart! Unfortunately, all you can do is to re-record that segment. Captivate offers no ability to change this.

Sooo, here's what I would suggest. First off, you can maybe find some small utility that simply allows you to create a typing text animation. Then you can totally turn off the typing layer on that slide and substitue the typing text. Secondly, I would strongly suggest submitting a Captivate enhancement request. Ask the developers to create a Text Animation for simple typing text. Captivate already offers 88 different text animations that work to allow us to edit the text in them. How difficult would it be to create a simple typing text animation? If you had that, it would be a piece of cake. Just insert the animation and enter the letters to be typed.
