Question

How do I only edit one graphic for entire presentation?

I know there is a way to do this. I just don't know how yet.

Say I want to create an effect on one object. Say it is a button or a graphic. Instead of having to do it again and again within each slide, what do I have to do to just change it once and make it change is all the different slides?

Thanks!

With a graphic it is possible: find the graphic in the Library, use the right-click menu to edit it with the application of your choice (I use Photoshop). After saving in that application all the instances of that graphic will be updated in your project.
