How do I rearrange Table of Contents?

Hello everyone,

In Adobe Captivate 8 I am going to create a Table of Contents for my e-Learning presentation. I found the tutorial on Adobe on how to create it.  I know I can rearrange the slides easily within Captivate. My question is this. Will the Table of Contents rearrange along with the slides or must I do that separately?

Thank you for your help.

You will just have to reset the TOC, there is a very tiny button at the bottom that allows resetting. At least if you have the good practice:

  1. to name the slides with the name you want to see appearing in the TOC
  2. to group slides that you want to have a level above, and name the groups with the name you want to appear in the TOC

Moreover I always recommend during training, to wait with creation of the TOC until the project is finished. Then you can do more editing in the TOC itself, like creation of more than two levels (groups + slides can be taken over from the flimstrip, not more levels).

One more question. Is there a way for me to keep the TOC opened at all times so that it does not collapse? I would like for it to be part of the regular interface. However, I doubt this would be possible since I am designing for a responsive template. The TOC would take up too much real estate on the tablets and mobile devices. Speaking of mobile devices, the TOC takes up the entire screen when viewing it via mobile device.

Responsive projects cannot have separate. TOC, for the reason you mentioned.

I have another question concerning TOC, if you don't mind.

Can I have several slides that reside under one heading for the TOC, or must each slide have its own TOC?

For instance, say I have a TOC (How to use Captivate) and have three slides for that one TOC. Is that possible?

Thank you.

You have to do it. Basically, when you add a slide, Captivate puts it at the top of the list in the Table of Contents. Working with the TOC takes some getting used to. I usually add five or ten slides then go back to the TOC and reorder them in the proper order. Also, in Settings,,,  if you check the "Collapse All" option under "Runtime Options", it doesn't always take when you add new folders/slides. You need to uncheck the "Collapse All" option, then recheck it for it to take effect. Sounds like a bug (I mean feature) to me!

Thank you. What does Collapse All do?

During runtime, only the Folders (sections) are visible, not all of the slides under the folders. The user can then click the arrow to dropdown and view the slides underneath the folder.
