Question

How do I split a slide into two slides?

Hi!

Here is my big problem:
I have recorded the video part, than imported an audio file for the whole project.
I set the slide timing markers for the audio by hand.

Now here is my problem:
The slides have their original timings. When you set the slides' markers, you can't move them closer together than their length - Captivate won't let you do it.

But after you split the audio track between the slides, I can't seem to find a way to move part of the slide's audio to the next slide.

I'd like to make the length of the actual slide shorter, but since the audio for the slide has a fixed width, it's not possible.

So let's say:
Slide is 3 secs
Audio is 3 secs
Is there a way to make the slide 1 sec, while moving the remaining 2 secs of the audio to the next slide?

If there is no way, how do you overcome this problem?
I simply can't adjust slide timings without the audio.
But inside the project audio timing editor, you can't change the length of slides so you run into this problem...

Thanks!

Duplicate the slide...on the original slide, delete the last 2 seconds of audio and then delete the first second on the duplicate slide.

Like with all Adobe products... :-( It's unintuitive, it's deeply buried, but it's there.

  1. Select the slide in your left panel;
  2. You will see it's properties in the panel on the right. Scroll down until you find a section titled "FMR Edit Options", expand it if you have to;
  3. Choose Split from the pop-up menu. New controls will show, and a new, black, playhead. Move it al the desired position, and click the "Split" button.

Note that there's also a "Trim" option beside the "Split" one, which will let you remove unwanted leading/trailing footage. Of course, there's still the perfectly fine question: Why is a such essential feature hidden away under such a weirdly named section? Well, no idea...

I have the same question and Claudius' response sounds like the right tool.  But in my Captivate 6.0.1, the slide properties has only sections for General, Action, and Audio; no "FMR Edit Options."  Where is that?

I'd export the audio file and split it in SoundBooth, or the free Audacity
tool, then reimport it to two separate slides in Captivate. If there's a way
to do it directly in Captivate, I've not discovered it.
