Question

How do you individualize a simulation based on an assessment?

I understand how I could branch based on the actions within a given slide, but I would like to branch after the learner completes several actions.

What I'd like to do, as an example, is if you were teaching Microsoft Excel - you create a pre-test, then based on how a student does they are only shown certain demonstrations/videos.

Let's say your objective is format cells and autosum. If student can already format cells then you want them to skip those lessons.

I am brand new to this, but worked through iconlogic's essentials books and I still don't see how to do this.

Thank you!

Thanks again to you both. Could a moderator mark this as answered? I can't try this out until I learn how to do it, and I don't want someone else to see inaccurate or incomplete info. Since there's two people agreeing, I'll assume it's correct.

Thank you RodWard and Lilybiri for your responses. I need to spend more time with the program before I can do this, apparently. And it looks like the advanced actions is where I'll need to be.

When I bought the program, I thought this sort of thing would be more straight-forward, but maybe it will be once I get more familiar with it.

Most new users find that getting the hang of Variables and Advanced Actions is very challenging at first.  But, like riding a bike, once you get going (and fall off a few times) it all starts to come together.

Stick with it and experiment!

Just want to add that the default Pretest questions have a conditional action set up to trigger either the Success or the Failure on the Pretest. You could start by editing that action.

If you plan to use Branch aware: both this feature and Pretest will cripple navigation by the playbar and the TOC. Have a look at:

You need to get into using Variables and Conditional Advanced Actions.

You would create a User Variable that is assigned a value based on whether or not the learner had performed some specific action (e.g. reading the end of a branch).  Then you can use this variable in a Decision Block of a Conditional Advanced Action to determine whether or not some other action would be taken (e.g. jumping the learner over to another section).

If you're new to these concepts, try starting on this page and moving through the topics using the links at the bottom:
