How to add font awesome icons to captivate 7 presentations?

Paul Wilson has a good video tutorial here on how to include a link to the Font Awesome CDN so that your responsive projects will be able to show the fonts.  Unfortunately, I was not able to find out how to actually insert the individual glyphs (or characters, whatever you want to call them) directly in Captivate - the "insert symbol" button does not allow me to select the Font Awesome character map.  I did find a workaround, though.

Once the Font Awesome font is installed on your computer, you can insert the symbol you want in another program -- I tried this with both InDesign and Word, and it worked both ways -- then paste the character into Captivate.  A popup asked me if I wanted to copy the text with formatting, and I said no.  This pasted the icon I wanted into Captivate.

If anyone knows how to directly insert the FontAwesome character into Captivate, please let me know!

Can anyone suggest how to use these?  I watched Paul Wilson's video on making them visible by adding an embed code to the output, but I can't even get them to appear within the app.  I'm using Captivate 2017...

Are there any developments on this? Interestingly, I managed to use Font Awesome Icons in some Captivate projects in late 2016, early 2017. Now it is 2018, and I'm revisiting captivate work again. After installing the fonts on my new work computer, its not working in Captivate or PowerPoint anymore (although in illustrator it works fine!). Any helpful hints would be appreciated. Using Font Awesome in my projects would save my development time significantly.

For starters, it might be helpful if you were to tell us what exactly a "font awesome" icon is without making us go google it.
