How to create my own responsive template

Good morning,

I need to create my own responsive template so we can accelerate the development of our eLearning modules.  I know how to create a template.  But it only gives me the option to make a static one.  I thought I could open the default responsive template file, modify it and then save it under a new name. But it is nowhere to be found or I just can't find it! .

Every asset web sites I found like the eLearning Brothers allows you to download what they call a template, but it is a loaded project, not a true template (CPTL) file.

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you!  Rik

Are you sure you need a template? Isn't a responsive theme sufficient? Have a look at my latest blog post to see the difference. I was bit baffled by the confusion about themes and templates, also as you know with the eLearning Brothers assets. They never offer a template, nor a theme but always a cptx-file. Here is the link:

What's in a Theme - a Template? - Captivate blog

There is no default responsive template AFAIK, there are only several default responsive themes included with Captivate, and also several Theme Colors Palettes.

Thank you for your quick response.

I will read your blog and learn from it I am sure.

The issue that I have is that we are a team of 6 curriculum developers and while we all work for the same organization, we are not all in close proximity.  We already started to build our own custom theme.  But for us, the template has the benefit of holding slides with navigations and other interactive objects at specific location and helping us starting a new eLearning project quickly with all the proper branding.

I will definitely explore the power in the Themes more. Also, if I read your message well, then there is no way to create and save customized responsive template... correct?

No, the option to save as a cptl is not available for responsive projects.

As you will read, I am mostly using shape buttons on master slides for navigation and control (like CC, TOC....). That means they will be in the theme.  Shape buttons can be on the master slides.
