Question

How to enable CC toggle button during slide video?

Hello, any advice will be welcomed !

I have several slides with video on them (using slide video). and added closed captions, have enabled to show the Playbar with the CC button.

However, during playing the slide within Captivate there is no problem and the CC button can toggle fine, but when previewing the CC button is grayed out so the used can not choose whether to show or to hide the closed caption. There is no such problem for slides with Audio. So I conclude this functionality is tied to the slide level and not to a video (which is an element level).

Most users I have asked (over 85%) would like to remove the CC when playing videos yet this seems impossible at the moment to deliver.

I would appreciate and idea for solving this issue or a workaround so that CC button can be toggled and the used can chose either to show or not to show the Closed Captions.

P.S. I am using Captivate 13.2.0.238 on Windows 11.

Thank you!

So, I am basically answering myself after finding a workaround. For those slide video I add an audio file (slide level) which is just empty (meaning a silent MP3 file) for the length of the slide. This enable the CC toggle on the slide so the user can choose to view or to hide the captions which are attached to the video element. There is no need to add captions to the Audio. It solves the problem, but the downside is that you add additional file and it takes few minutes to do, considering you generate an empty sound file. This can be done easily with Audacity by Generate → Silence → time → export.

If anyone can share additional solutions or better ones, it will be highly appreciated.

Thanks!
